To students enrolled in the ULB Master in Statistics

Fixing your annual program (PAE)

As soon as possible in the academic year (and possibly even before the start of the academic year), your annual program (PAE) should be fixed. The first step to do so is to send me a proposal for the list of courses you intend to take (the program is available here). There are constraints that are not explicitly mentioned in the online program, so we will need to fix your program together. When we will have agreed on your PAE, you will need to fill in this form (list all courses there, and not only optional courses) and send it to me so that your PAE can be finalized on MonULB. Some extra points:

  • Valorisation (for new students only): when entering the program, you may ask that one or several courses you took earlier (in another master, at ULB or in another institution) replace(s) a course from the master in your PAE. If you want to do so, please mention this to me when we fix your PAE (possibly you will need to fill extra forms). In any case, there are several strict rules about this procedure.

  • In case your PAE exceeds 60 ects (this will be the case in particular if the "complément obligatoire" MATH-F207 is in your PAE), then you will need to further fill in this form and send it to me (if your PAE is made of 60+n ects, then you should have n ects in the table "Teaching Unit(s) to be added to your individual annual program 2022-2023" of this form).

  • If you cannot complete the program this year but have already obtained some credits in the past (e.g., you still have 90 ects to complete), then there is a procedure that allows you to split with some flexibility the remaining credits between this year and the next academic year; please see this form.

  • When you enter the program, the first year (typically 60 ects) can be split over two years ("allègement"), although there are some constraints to be allowed to do so; please see this form.

All this must be completed as soon as possible (and no later than October 15, 2022). Please check that your PAE on MonULB agrees with what we agreed on.

Schedule

The main schedule is available here. The week numbers refer to those available in this calendar. If you are looking for the schedule of a course that does not show there, then please look here.

STAT-F426/STAT-F509: Participation aux séminaires

These courses require attending the research seminars we organize on Thursdays from 12:15 to 13:15. These are pass-or-fail courses; to pass, you need to attend at least 75% of the seminars. The schedule is frequently updated here. Usually, a few days before each seminar talk, I am informing students enrolled in STAT-F426/STAT-F509 about the next talk (but this may be a problem at the beginning of the academic year since you will not be enrolled before formally fixing your PAE, so please check the online schedule above).

STAT-F424: Initiation à la recherche

If this course is part of your PAE, then you need to contact one of the professors, decide with her/him about a research topic, and work on it through the whole year. At the end of the year, the professor will provide a grade assessing how well you did. For organisational purposes, please let me know by October 31, 2022, who is the professor who will be supervising you. Please be aware that this course will be organized for the last time in 2022-2023.

MEMO-F521: Mémoire

This "course" corresponds to the master thesis, that may take the form of a genuine master thesis ("mémoire") or of an internship in a company ("stage"). In both cases, a thesis should be submitted and there will be a defense in June or in August/September; details are available here. By October 31, 2022, you should send this form to me (the form should already be signed by your ULB supervisor and yourself). Deadline to submit the thesis in the première session is June 6, 3pm and August 22, 4pm in the sconde session. The defenses in the seconde session will take place on September 5. The first page of your thesis should use this Latex template, that will require this image file.
